**References.** The reference to video variant takes up to **30 reference images**, up to **10 reference videos** and up to **10 reference audios**. Audio clips must be wav or mp3, 2 to 30 seconds each, and at most 15MB each. You cite them in the prompt in submission order using @ syntax, so `@Image1`, `@Video1`, `@Audio1`. A reference image, if the term is new to you, is just a picture you hand the model so it keeps a character, a product or an art style consistent across shots. ## The actual API call, which is not a chat completion

This trips up almost everyone, so it is worth stating flatly. Video is **not** generated through the OpenAI compatible chat endpoint. Do not copy an `import OpenAI` snippet from an LLM tutorial and expect video out of it. That endpoint serves the text catalogue only.

The practical pattern for a solo creator is a three step ladder. Draft your prompt on the $0.01 per second fast tier until the composition is right. Generate the same 5 second, 1080p prompt ten times and record wall clock time from submit to a downloadable file. Do it at two different times of day, because load is not constant. Then submit five jobs at once and see whether total wall clock time stays flat or scales linearly.
